A driver has about two seconds to read your sign. Design for that.
## The rules of a great sign
1. Three words max in the headline: GARAGE SALE plus an arrow.
2. Letters at least 3 inches tall, thick black marker on bright paper.
3. One sign, one job — the corner sign points, the house sign confirms.
## Placement
Put signs at every turn between a main road and your house. Eye level, facing traffic, on both sides of busy roads. Test-drive the route yourself.
## What to skip
Full addresses on corner signs (the arrow does the work), small print, thin markers, and dark paper.
## Check local rules first
Many towns restrict sign placement on public property, and homeowners associations may have their own rules. Always take every sign down after the sale.
