What to Put on a Printable Garage Sale Sign

Less is more. A sign crammed with details is a sign nobody reads at 30 mph. Stick to the essentials:

• The words GARAGE SALE (or YARD SALE) in the largest possible letters
• A big directional arrow — this matters more than the address
• The date and start time (e.g., SAT 8AM)
• Optional: the street name if the turn isn't obvious

Colors and Sizes That Get Noticed

High contrast wins. Black letters on a bright yellow, neon pink, or white background are readable from the farthest distance. Avoid red-on-blue or anything pastel — they blur together at driving speed.

Print at least at 8.5 × 11 inches, then mount on poster board or cardboard so the sign doesn't flop over. Letters should be 3 inches tall or more. If you're hand-finishing a printed template, use a wide chisel-tip marker, never a ballpoint pen.

Where and When to Post Your Signs

Place signs at every decision point between the nearest busy road and your driveway: the main intersection, each turn, and one at the sale itself. Shoppers follow arrows like a trail of breadcrumbs — one missing sign and you lose them.

Put signs up the evening before or by 6:30 AM on sale day. Early birds are your biggest spenders. And always take signs down after the sale; leftover signs annoy neighbors and can violate local sign ordinances.
