How to Plan a Neighborhood Garage Sale That Draws a Crowd

Start 4–6 Weeks Out

Group sales need lead time. Pick a Saturday four to six weeks away, check it doesn't clash with holidays or big local events, and clear it with your HOA if you have one. Then recruit: a flyer in mailboxes plus a post in the neighborhood Facebook or Nextdoor group usually lands 10–30 participating households.

Ask each household for a small chip-in ($5 or so) to fund shared advertising and big entrance signs. Sellers who pay even a token amount are far more likely to actually set up on sale day.

• Large banner-style signs at every subdivision entrance
• A simple map or list of participating addresses to hand shoppers
• A shared start time so early traffic benefits everyone

Sale-Day Coordination

Common start and end times keep shoppers circulating instead of finding half-closed driveways. Encourage every household to fly a balloon or matching sign so participating homes are obvious from the street.

After the sale, coordinate one group donation pickup — many charities will send a truck for a multi-house haul, which beats twenty separate trips to the drop-off center.
